8,000 TLC Floating Dock Steel Cutting Ceremony

January 31, 2025

On 31st January 2025, we had the Steel Cutting Ceremony for an 8000 TLC Floating Dock for the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI), Ministry of Transport.

Al-Zaman Group has awarded a project for the construction of a Floating Dock in Turkey. The Floating Dock has a length of 141m and Breadth of 40m with a lifting capacity of 8000 TLC
This project is financed by the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA), Al Zaman Group was among the shipbuilding leading companies that submitted their offer for this project and following technical and commercial meetings, the project was awarded to Al Zaman Group.

The event, attended by industry leaders, and government officials, marks the official commencement of the dock’s construction, reinforcing its growing reputation as a major hub for shipbuilding and marine infrastructure.

A delegation from the GCPI arrived in Istanbul on Thursday 30th January 2025 to visit the Shipyard at which the project will be implemented. The delegation was represented by Project Director Mr. Muntadher Abdul Razzaq and accompanied by personnel from the Technical Committee.

The steel cutting was done using a CNC plasma Machine which marks the first milestone of the project. This ceremony, a tradition in shipbuilding, signifies the official start of the dock’s construction, reinforcing growing expertise in marine infrastructure and ship repair.

This is a strategic project for Iraq and the region because it will be complementary to Al Faw Grand Port and Develop road projects. The Development road aims to connect the east to the west through a railway road starting from Al Faw, Iraq ending in Europe. This will increase the marine traffic in the territory and having a Floating Dock is crucial for the operations. In addition, the project is supported by the Director General of Ports of Iraq Dr Farhan Al Fartousi and the Minister of Transport H.E Razzaq Muhaibes.

The floating dock, designed to support ship maintenance, repair, and new build operations, is being constructed to meet international standards, ensuring efficiency and sustainability. Once completed, it will significantly enhance the region’s capacity to service a variety of vessels, from commercial ships to naval units.
